Week 8- Barcelona

Judy Kaufmann

During Week 8 I wasn't able to attend my normal session of 'Digital Process' as I was on an illustration trip to Barcelona. This trip was a great experience as I'd never been to Barcelona before and the architecture as we walked through the city was beautiful to see, such as the Gothic Quarter of the city and more specifically the Sagrada Familia. My personal highlight of the trip was when the had the opportunity to go to two different illustrator / graphics studios and meet those who worked there. Meeting the illustrator Judy Kaufmann was particularly interesting and engaging, learning about her process and how she dealt with different briefs, from a variety of clients she had worked with. Meeting this illustrator was very insightful and I love her style of illustration, her use of bold colours and simple shapes used to create characters and patterns. Also in some of her work she lowers the opacity of the colours so that when they crossover they create a new colour. I think that this is a technique I would like to try myself as it has the look of layered tissue paper, which I really like the subtlety of.
