External Practice

Due to the fact that my experience with painting in Photoshop is quite limited I decided to experiment with the software in between sessions, and subsequently I produced these two pieces. I wasn't working to any particular brief for these illustrations I just wanted to see how a variety of tools in Photoshop worked. Through this practice I was able to learn how to use layers and lot more efficiently, as well as using the burn tool which was especially helpful. I mainly used the burn tool on the first illustration as it helped me to create strong areas of darkness, which helped to give the character dimension and look as if it was part of the environment. Also in the second illustration I experimented with using darker shades of the fill colour for my line work, rather than black. This resulted in the illustration having a much more muted colour palette, plus it looks a lot less flat, without having to use a wide spectrum of tone.
